This short guide explains where to set your default payment types and default bank account so Payments and Receipts are quicker and more consistent.
1. Set Default Payment Types (for Payments & Receipts)
Use this when you want BrightBooks to automatically pick a payment method (e.g. Bank Transfer, Card, Cash) for new Payments and Receipts.
Steps:
- Go to Settings.
- Go to Accounts >Setup.
- Find the Default Payment Types section.
- Choose your preferred default method for:
- Payments (money out – e.g. Bank Transfer)
- Receipts (money in – e.g. Card or Bank Transfer)
- Save your changes.
From now on, new Payments/Receipts will use these methods by default (you can still change them on each transaction if needed).
2. Set Default Bank Account
Use this when you want BrightBooks to automatically use a particular bank account (usually your main current account) for new Payments and Receipts.
Steps:
- Go to Settings.
- Open Nominal Control & Default Codes.
- Locate the Default Bank Account field.
- Select the bank account you want BrightBooks to use by default.
- Save your changes.
New Payments and Receipts will now default to this bank account, which you can override on individual transactions if required.
