1. Why a new bank reconciliation may be blocked
In BrightBooks, you cannot start a new bank reconciliation for an account if any previous reconciliation for that account is still open.
This applies to:
- The most recent reconciliation, and
- Any earlier reconciliation that was never fully completed and marked as closed.
If at least one reconciliation is still open, BrightBooks will prevent you from starting a new one to protect the integrity of your reconciled balances.
2. What you need to check
If you find you can’t start a new bank reconciliation:
- Open the list of bank reconciliations for that bank account.
- Carefully review all reconciliations, not just the last one.
- Look for any reconciliation with a status such as Open, In Progress, or Not Closed.
- For each open reconciliation:
- Complete the reconciliation (match and clear all relevant transactions).
- Mark it as Closed.
BrightBooks will only let you start a new reconciliation for that bank account once all previous reconciliations are closed.
3. Practical tip
If you have a long history of reconciliations:
- Scroll through the full list to ensure there isn’t an older reconciliation left open by mistake.
- Once every reconciliation shows as Closed, you can proceed with your next bank reconciliation without issue.
